Lighting Up the Community From Within
Sunday 15th November
The Barn, The Leys, OX4 7BU

The project will bring the local community together through a joyful celebration of light, creativity and neighbourhood spirit. By providing residents with simple festive lighting kits, the initiative will encourage neighbours, families and community groups to work together to decorate their homes, streets and shared spaces, helping to brighten the Leys during the festive season.
At the heart of the project is a desire to create a positive, inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that everyone can enjoy. Residents will be encouraged to get creative with their displays, share ideas with their neighbours and take pride in making their local area feel vibrant, warm and festive. From individual homes and windows to communal spaces, the lights will create a shared sense of celebration across the neighbourhood.
As part of this shared celebration, residents, families and community groups will also be invited to come together to decorate and illuminate the largest natural tree in the area. Everyone will have the opportunity to help, creating a shared festive centrepiece that represents the creativity, togetherness and community spirit of the Leys.
More than simply decorating the area, the project is an opportunity to strengthen community connections and encourage people to come together. By creating something collectively, neighbours who may not normally meet or interact will have a simple and enjoyable reason to connect, collaborate and celebrate their community.
The project will also shine a light on the warmth, creativity and community spirit that already exists within the Leys. By making the festive transformation visible throughout the neighbourhood, it will celebrate local people and create a stronger sense of pride and belonging.
Ultimately, the aim is to create a festive experience that is accessible to everyone — bringing colour and light to the darker winter months, creating memorable moments for residents of all ages, and helping the Leys feel even more welcoming, connected and full of community spirit.
