Make a Willow Lantern

Although there won’t be a lantern parade in Oxford at this year’s festival, we can help you create your own lanterns to decorate your homes and gardens for the weekend and beyond.


Watch the video and then make your own unique lantern for displaying during the festival. This activity requires adult supervision.

Build Back Brighter - online lantern making workshop

Join us for a free, live artist-led lantern making session and get your lantern ready for this year's Christmas Light Festival!

Over the course of two hours our lantern artist will show you how to create your own lantern using items from around the house and recycled materials.

The workshop is suitable for all ages though small children will need the help of an adult. Why not bring the whole family and get creative together?

Children might prefer to make a Snowman lantern whilst adults might want to try their hand at creating a lace patterned lantern -or you could try both!

Make a Star Lantern

Make your very own lantern parade style star lantern ready for the festival weekend. You can make a star (or several) to decorate your house or garden. Then, why not register to be part of a local light trail for friends and neighbours to enjoy on your street.
