Light Up with the Ashmolean Museum

Live lantern-making workshop

Join us for a closer look at lamps and lanterns in the Ashmolean Museum's collection and make your own lantern to brighten up the dark evenings, with a simple craft activity.
All ages welcome, but particularly good for 5 to 11 year olds and their grown-ups.
Please have these ready for the lantern making:

2 sheets white paper (A4 printer paper or similar).

Scissors

Glue stick or craft glue

Pencil
-
Eraser
-
Black or dark felt tip pen
-
Few teaspoons of oil in a jar or bowl (any cooking oil will do)

Paint brush
-
Earbud
-
Bike light or battery operated candle
WARNING: This lantern is not for use with a live candle or flame of any kind.
This activity is not very messy but you may want to wear old clothes/apron and protect your table with old newspaper or similar.
Adults must supervise this activity.
