About the Festival

Welcome to Oxford's Christmas Light Festival

Oxford's Christmas Light Festival has been taking place since 2009. Initially a single evening's event, nowadays a full three day weekend is devoted to Oxford's city centre being illuminated with art installations.

Alongside these impressive displays, we work with scores of cultural partners to present a massive programme of performances, exhibitions, workshops and activities many of which are free and ideal for all the family to enjoy.

Oxford's Christmas Light Festival is an important part of the city council's commitment to ensure that arts, culture and events continue to feature in the lives of our diverse communities.  Crucially we want to create opportunities that are freely accessible to all.

Much of the festival takes place in outdoor locations so that we can maximise accessibility enabling people to happen across artworks or come into the city because they know experiences will be free and where there are less barriers to taking part or experiencing something new.  We hope people will feel uplifted and inspired; that our communities will feel a sense of local pride in where they live and shared personal investment in their city.

The 2020 festival is led by Oxford City Council on behalf of and with a consortium of partners: Fusion Arts, Film Oxford, OCM (Oxford Contemporary Music), AOFS (Arts at the Old Fire Station) and Tandem Arts Collective.

If you think your business or organisation might have some synergy with the festival, do get in touch to discuss how we might work together for our mutual benefit.
