About the Festival
Welcome to Oxford's Christmas Light Festival
Oxford's Christmas Light Festival has been taking place since 2009. Initially a single evening's event, nowadays a full three day weekend is devoted to Oxford's city centre being illuminated with art installations.
Alongside these impressive displays, we work with scores of cultural partners to present a massive programme of performances, exhibitions, workshops and activities many of which are free and ideal for all the family to enjoy.
Oxford's Christmas Light Festival is an important part of the city council's commitment to ensure that arts, culture and events continue to feature in the lives of our diverse communities. Crucially we want to create opportunities that are freely accessible to all.
Much of the festival takes place in outdoor locations so that we can maximise accessibility enabling people to happen across artworks or come into the city because they know experiences will be free and where there are less barriers to taking part or experiencing something new. We hope people will feel uplifted and inspired; that our communities will feel a sense of local pride in where they live and shared personal investment in their city. The festival programme is produced in partnership with our programming partners and in 2018 we collectively delivered 149 events across the festival weekend, creating over 162,000 audience experiences for over 40,000 people.
The festival is supported with funding from Arts Council England, the University of Oxford and produced by Oxford City Council and cultural partners.
If you think your business or organisation might have some synergy with the festival, do get in touch to discuss how we might work together for our mutual benefit.
